Rugby Championship over for injured Facundo Isa

Facundo Isa is out of the Rugby Championship. The flanker will return to his French club, Toulon to recover from a sprained knee suffered on Saturday. Isa started for Argentina against South Africa in the opening round match of the 2021 Rugby Championship.

Isa was among Argentina’s top performers. His carrying meters and defense were second to none of Los Pumas’ forwards on Saturday. Rethinking will now be required as he is out of the five remaining matches of the tournament.

His injury follows that to Santiago Grondona. He has been unable to play test rugby this year. The players were the starting flankers for Argentina’s final match of 2020, a draw against Australia in Sydney. No that day Francisco Gorrissen made his test debut as Los Pumas’ replacement flanker.

Gorrissen is on the current roster. He joins Rodrigo Bruni, Juan Martín González, Tomás Lezana, Pablo Matera, and Joaquín Oviedo as the players named as back-rowers by Mario Ledesma. Oviedo is uncapped while González debuted in July against Romania. A rethink may see Marcos Kremer reverting from second-row to flanker.
