San Diego Legion hire Danny Lee as Head Coach

The San Diego Legion have announced the hiring of Danny Lee as Head Coach and Director of Rugby effective immediately. He replaces co-coaches Scott Murray and Zack Test. Their futures at the club remain uncertain on the back of the Legion’s first losing campaign.

Lee, 45, is a native of New Zealand and former professional player, winning two caps for the All Blacks as a scrumhalf in 2002 including one start against France. The majority of his playing career was in his home country at provincial and Super Rugby level before a brief stay in Wales with the Dragons.

After retiring in 2010 he made the switch to coaching, spending five years with the Hawke’s Bay Magpies. He moved to Japan in 2017 and took over the Head Coach role of the Honda Heat, winning promotion to the Top League from the second division in his first season.
