Argentine hooker Leonel Oviedo signs for Céret

Leonel Oviedo is following younger brother Joaquín to France. While the latter has signed a Top 14 deal with Perpignan, Leonel will open his European experience with Céret in the Fédérale 1.

At 23 years old Leonel Oviedo is a player on the rise. He was selected for two World Junior Championships with the Pumitas before making his Argentina XV debut against the Chile XV in October’s South American Championship. He also played for Ceibos in the 2020 SLAR season and Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup.

Standing 1.86m (6’1″) and weighing 115kg (255lbs), Oviedo is an imposing figure for a hooker. He is originally from Córdoba Athletic, one of the oldest clubs in Argentina that has also produced current Pumas Enrique Pieretto and Santiago Carreras among others.
