Puma Javier Díaz joins Valorugby Emilia

Javier Díaz is departing Argentina to continue his career in Italy. The 25-year-old has signed for Valorugby Emilia to play in the Italian Top 10. He makes the move to Europe after previously having played Super Rugby and Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).

Díaz played Super Rugby under Mario Ledesma. He impressed in his rookie season in 2018. This saw him called-up by Daniel Hourcade to Los Pumas in June 2018. He played in the mid-year home tests against Wales and Scotland, earning a test start against Scotland in Resistencia.

Injury problems saw him unable to add to his three test caps. He was also unable to get regular game time in Super Rugby. In 2021 he joined the Olímpia Lions for SLAR. His move to Italy sees him playing professional rugby in a third country and a third league.

Díaz is a product of Club Natación y Gimnasia. He played for the Tucumán club before his call-up to Super Rugby. Ut came following appearances for Argentina u20s and for the Argentina XV.

His move to Italy follows that of other SLAR players. Among them are Jaguares XV center Teo Castiglioni who will play alongside Díaz at Valorugby Emilia.
