Americas Rankings – July 18, 2021

The Americas Rankings is an exclusive on Americas Rugby News. The rankings compare the men’s test teams from throughout the Americas. Matches recognized as caps are used for the rankings. Teams yet to compete since the Americas Rankings began are listed with 30.00 points.

The July 18, 2021 edition considers the results of international activity this past weekend. Argentina faced Wales in Cardiff on Saturday and Uruguay hosted Chile in a Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifier on Sunday.

Argentina were 33-11 winners over Wales. The result gave Los Pumas an historic away series win over Wales. The teams competed to a 20-20 draw seven days earlier. When added to Argentina’s win over Romania, July 2021 officially marks Argentina’s first unbeaten tour since 1992. Moreover, Saturday’s win was also by a record margin of 22 points.

The outcome is a notable gain for Argentina in rankings points. Los Pumas rise from 80.92 to 83.16 points. This extents Argentina’s position at the top of the Americas Rankings. It also means That Argentina rise from 9th to 7th in the World Rankings. Argentina are now above Scotland and Wales who fall to 8th and 9th ahead of Japan in 10th in the world.

Uruguay ‘s 15-10 win over Chile sees no change in the rankings. Had Chile won the match then the situation would be very different. Chile were close to victory; a reality that implies for potential changes later in the year in subsequent RWC 2023 qualifiers.

The Americas Rankings will be updates again next weekend. They will take into account the result of Uruguay vs Brazil. That match is also a RWC 2023 qualifier and is the final fixture in the South American section. Places are on the line against Canada and the USA.
