Two-year Seawolves extension for captain Riekert Hattingh

Seattle Seawolves fans won’t be able to see Riekert Hattingh in action in the final game of the season due to suspension, but the good news is they’ll have plenty more opportunities in the future as the captain has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract. The new deal sees the newly-capped USA international tied to the Tukwila club through the 2023 Major League Rugby campaign.

Hattingh has been a talismanic figure for the Seawolves since their inaugural campaign, playing a starring role in the 2018 and 2019 Championship Final victories. The 27-year-old South African eightman finally earned test recognition this year after qualifying on residency.

It’s another statement of intent for Seattle, with Hattingh now set to lead the Seawolves revival under new Head Coach Allen Clarke. Past signing announcements have drifted into the preseason so the early confirmation is welcome news after what has been a challenging season for the Starfire faithful.
