Red card citings for Juan Cruz Mallía and Riekert Hattingh

Two Americas players will face judicial hearings early this week after being cited for foul play. Argentina fullback Juan Cruz Mallía and USA flanker Riekert Hattingh both received red cards for dangerous tackles in their respective international matches.

Mallía was sent from the field in the 30th minute by referee Matthew Carley after a reckless head-high challenge on Wales scrumhalf Kieran Hardy. He now looks set to miss the second test in Cardiff this coming weekend.

Hattingh received his marching orders from referee Mathieu Raynal at the 53 minute mark for a high tackle on Ireland hooker Ronan Kelleher. It’s Hattingh’s second citing in as many weeks though he was cleared of foul play in the first hearing.

Independent disciplinary update: Juan Cruz Mallía (Argentina)

Argentina full-back Juan Cruz Mallía will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he received a red card for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous tackle) in Argentina’s international match against Wales on 10 July, 2021.

The player will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Roddy Dunlop QC (Scotland), joined by former international Becky Essex (England) and former international referee Donal Courtney (Ireland).

The hearing will take place on Monday, 12 July 2021 at a time to be agreed with the player and his representatives.

 

Independent disciplinary update: Riekert Hattingh (USA)

USA flanker Riekart Hattingh will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he received a red card for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous tackle) in USA’s international match against Ireland on 10 July, 2021.

The player will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Samantha Hillas QC (England). Ms Hillas QC will be joined by two panel members appointed from the World Rugby Judicial Panel to be confirmed in due course.

The hearing will take place on Tuesday, 13 July 2021 at 19:30 BST.
