Brazil names squad for next round of World Cup qualifiers

Brazil have named a 30-man traveling squad for the next round of the Rugby World Cup Qualifiers. Having defeated Paraguay in their opening match, Os Tupis will now play tests against Chile on July 11 and Uruguay on July 25. Both will be played in Montevideo.

The winner of the series is to represent South America in the ‘Americas 1’ playoff against Canada or the USA. Only the third-placed team will be eliminated completely, with the second-ranked team moving on to face the loser of the North American playoff in October.

A notable arrival from the USA is Wilton Rebolo of Rugby United New York. The versatile front rower was named in the original 36-man squad but was not available for the Paraguay test. He is one of four players based abroad with all but one of the domestic group playing for Cobras in SLAR.

Left out of the traveling group are hooker Endy Willian, tighthead props Henrique Ferreira and Joel Ramírez, second row Kauã Guimarães, flanker Devon Müller, and utility forward Alexandre Alves. Midfielder Gabriel Quirino is the only uncapped player selected.

A detailed squad list can be seen here.
