Mateo Carreras joins Los Pumas in Wales

Injuries have forced further changes to Los Pumas. Following the loss of Federico Wegrzyn another change sees a call-up for Newcastle Falcons winger Mateo Carreras. The 21-year-old is uncapped.

Mateo Carreras comes in to occupy the place of Emiliano Boffelli. It happens following a late change wherein Boffelli was ruled-out of facing Romania. He was due to start for Los Pumas against Romania in Bucharest on Saturday. Instead, Santiago Cordero moved from wing to fullback and Bautista Delguy played on the wing. Argentina won the match 24-17.

Mateo Carreras joins Los Pumas in Cardiff, Wales. The South Americans will play two test matches over the coming weekends against Wales. Mateo Carreras will be available for both.

The 21-year-old is a former Pumita. He impressed for Argentina u20s at Junior World Championship. He has also played for Los Pumas 7’s. He is a product of Los Tarcos in Tucumán. He made the move to England from Argentina for the 2020-2021 Premiership season. He subsequently earned a long-term contract with the Newcastle Falcons.

Mateo Carreras is not related to Santiago Carreras. The latter is from Córdoba and has nine caps for Argentina. Like Mateo, Santiago Carreras plays in the English Premiership. He had a strong rookie season for Gloucester in 2020-2021.
