Psalm Wooching is heading to France next season, signing for Fédérale 1 club RCS Rumilly. The US Eagles and San Diego Legion flanker confirmed the move with The Rugby Network’s Joe Harvey and a formal announcement is now on the club’s social media channel.
The move abroad is not a surprise given Wooching’s outstanding form and that his wife is from nearby Switzerland, but the level of competition is. Fédérale 1 is now the fourth division of French rugby and considered semi-professional. The 27-year-old says he hopes to move up to a higher division soon.
“The thing for me was, it is not in a division that is the highest. The end goal is to get to the higher level of ProD2 or the Top 14 and, after speaking with my family, my agents, just people, we agreed it would be great for me to get my foot in the door, get into France, get comfortable, play some good rugby and then hopefully move up the divisions.”
This will be Wooching’s first overseas contract. He signed with Italian club Viadana in March 2018 but the move did not come off in the end and he instead joined the Legion for the 2019 Major League Rugby season. In three seasons he played 33 games for the club.
