International Preview – Uruguay vs Argentina XV

With an eye to RWC 2023 Uruguay begin their on-field preparations on Sunday. Los Teros will have home advantage against the Argentina XV in a non-capped international. The fixture sees players from five of the six SLAR franchises. Uruguay also has included players based in Europe and MLR.

Uruguay, like Peñarol, will be captained by Andrés Vilaseca. He will have many SLAR teammates. They come in the form of all but one starting back. Felipe Berchesi will play inside Vilaseca at fly half. he will do so outside Tomás Inciarte who was strong for Peñarol at both scrum-half and outside center this year.

Mateo Sanguinetti, Germán Kessler, and Diego Arbelo start up front. They will give Uruguaya powerful front-row. Exports Ignacio Dotti, Franco Lamanna, and Manuel Diana will all start in the forwards.

The Argentina XV contains two named from Super Rugby AU. Melbourne Rebels players Ignacio Cálas and Lucio Sordoni will both feature. The former will start in the second-row. The remaining names played in SLAR. Among them is Axcel Zapata who captained the Olímpia Lions and Peñarol N8 Conrado Roura.

The Argentina XV will be captained by Juan Pablo Zeiss. He has seven caps for Los Pumas. Many of his teammates are pressing for consideration for the 2021 Rugby Championship. A strong performance could see some named on the roster.

The Argentina XV is the Argentine next of XV. Argentina has long had such teams, though matches with the name the Argentina XV began on the eve of RWC 2015. The first such fixture saw Uruguay warming-up for the tournament with a home win over their neighbors. Los Teros have won three of their eleven matches against the Argentina XV.

The Argentina XV enter as favorites. Los Jaguares XV’s SLAR title is a leading factor in this projection. Past results are also in the Argentina XV’s favor. ARN projects an Argentina XV victory by 12 points.
