Colombia match cancelled, Chile advance in RWC qualifiers

Chile have advanced in Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Los Cóndores were set to play host to Colombia on Saturday. That match will no longer be played due to three positive COVID-19 cases within the Tucanes squad.

The outcome for the respective teams is different. On the one hand, Chile will now join Brazil and Uruguay in the next round. On the other hand, Colombia are eliminated without playing a match. The Triangular series in Montevideo will be played from July 11 to 25.

The called-off match was to be historic. Chile and Colombia have never played each other in a test match. International competition between the teams has been Sevens and at the Junior level.

Future test matches between the countries are certain. Chile and Colombia both had teams in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).
