Santiago Arata is out of the RWC 2023 qualifiers. Ignacio Chans reports that Arata requested not to be selected for Uruguay’s upcoming test matches. Uruguay will play against Brazil and the winner of this coming weekend’s RWC qualifier between Chile and Colombia.
Arata asked to sit out the RWC 2023 qualifiers for personal reasons. The URU contacted World Rugby and his club, Castres, but the player did not change his decision. Arata recently signed an extension with Castres. He will begin pre-season training on July 11.
His decision is to pull-out of the July test matches. That is to say that he will be fully available for Uruguay for subsequent rounds of RWC qualifying. The South American winner will face the North American winner in October. If Uruguay win they will thereby be up against either the USA or Canada with Arata involved.
Uruguay’s domestic professionals have been busy preparing for the upcoming international matches. 25 Peñarol players will be the center of Los Teros’ roster. Of the 25 players one player covers Arata’s position of scrum-half. That player is Tomás Inciarte who had an excellent SLAR season where he played at both scrum-half and outside center.
