Wegrzyn out, Pumas call up Muzzio and Martínez

Los Pumas have been forced to call for front row reinforcements following a calf injury to prop Federico Wegrzyn in training. Loosehead specialists Carlos Muzzio and Rodrigo Martínez will join the group. Both are uncapped at senior level.

Martínez had been named in the Argentina XV squad to prepare for the match against Uruguay this coming weekend but will now depart for Europe. The former Pumitas starter will turn 23 on July 7. He was first choice for the Olímpia Lions during the SLAR season.

With Martínez required to complete 10 days quarantine upon arrival and Benetton’s Thomas Gallo currently vacationing in Argentina, France-based Muzzio has been summoned as emergency cover. At 36 years old the Mont-de-Marsan stalwart last represented the Argentina XV at the 2016 Nations Cup. It’s not clear if Muzzio will remain with the group when Martínez clears quarantine.

A revised squad list can be seen here.
