LA adds US-eligible Irish flanker Sean O’Brien

The LA Giltinis have confirmed the addition of Irish flanker Sean O’Brien for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. A member of the Leinster Academy program, the 20-year-old has represented Ireland at age-grade level but qualifies for the USA having been born in Pittsburgh.

O’Brien started against Scotland, Wales, and England during the 2020 u20 Six Nations. Standing 6’4″ (1.93m), he can play across the back row but is most often found on the flank. This past season was his first in the Leinster Academy after graduating from Blackrock College.

LA’s was forced to play midfielder Bill Meakes out of position against San Diego last weekend. Loose forwards Christian Poidevin, Corey Thomas, and Langilangi Haupeakui are currently injured while Harry McNulty departed early to join Ireland’s Sevens team for the Tokyo Olympics.
