Pumas Centers crowned Top 14 champions

Two Pumas have been crowned 2021 Top 14 champions. Argentine centers Juan Cruz Mallía and Santiago Chocobares started for Toulouse in this evening’s French championship final. Toulouse were 18-8 winners over La Rochelle.

Mallía played the match out of position. The teams needs saw him playing on the right wing. The Córdoba mid-fielder made history by winning two titles while under contract as a medical joker. His try took Toulouse to the European Champions Cup title last month.

Chocobares was unable to play in the Champions Cup due to registration details. He arrived in France after Mallía. He also did so as a medical joker but joined after the early rounds of the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The Rufino native started at outside center in the Top 14 Final.

USA prop David Ainu’u was left out of the match-day 23 for the final. He was a Champions Cup winner alongside Mallía. He will now travel to England to prepare for the 4th of July test match in London. Mallía and Chocobares will join Los Pumas who face Romania in Bucharest on July 03.

Facundo Bosch will also play test rugby in July. He will join his Pumas teammates after having featured for La Rochelle in both the Champions Cup and Top 14 Finals. He started the final this evening for La Rochelle.
