Uruguay u20s claim hard fought victory over Georgia

Uruguay defeated Georgia 20-15 this morning in South Africa. The match as a second round contest in the u20 International Series. Uruguay’s win gives Los Teritos a 1-1 record. Uruguay competed well against South Africa in their opening fixture.

Uruguay were made to work hard for their win against Georgia. The Eastern European dominated the first half. They entered the try zone early; their 9th minute effort had them up quickly and looking powerful.

The South Americans responded with a penalty. Sebastian Gomez Platero cut the deficit to four points in the 16th minute. Georgia, though, cancelled it out with a penalty of their own. It gave Georgia a 10-3 lead at the close of the opening quarter.

The second quarter saw Georgia unable to add further points. Uruguay also were unable to do so; that is, until the final minute of the half. Hooker Joaquín Myska went over to end the opening half at 10-8.

Uruguay had the better of play in the second half. The South Americans outscored the Eastern Europeans by two tries to one. The first was a long time coming. Scrum-half Juan Manuel Tafernaberry found his way into the try zone for Los Teritos. Fly half Sebastian Gomez Platero added the extras.

Georgia responded through Jimsheleishvili, but not before Uruguay had scored their second try of the second-half. Center Juan Manuel Algorta went over for Los Teritos. It gave the South Americans space on the scoresheet to see out the remainder of the game.
