Federico Wegrzyn has signed for Provence Rugby. The move is a two-year-deal that will see the Patagonian loose head prop playing in the PRO D2 while being coached by Mauricio Reggiardo. Wegrzyn moves to France from Los Jaguares XV. Provence Rugby will be his first foreign club.
Wegrzyn is the second South American recruited by Provence Rugby for the 2021-2022 PRO D2 season. The club recently signed Uruguayan hooker Germán Kessler from Charente.
The 25-year-old was the starting loose head for Los Jaguares XV in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Wegrzyn and fellow Patagonian Juan Pablo Zeiss had starts together in the front-row in SLAR this year.
Argentine head coach Mario Ledesma named Federico Wegrzyn as one of three specialist loose head props on Los Pumas’ roster for the July Internationals. Wegrzyn joins the uncapped Facundo Gigena (London Irish) and veteran Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro as the options.
If he receives game time in July then Wegrzyn will make his test debut. Los Pumas start their three-match tour on July 03 against Romania in Bucharest. The match will be followed by two tests against Wales in Cardiff.
Wegrzyn is a product of Esquel RC (Los Lagos del Sur) and is a native of Esquel in Chubut province. He also played previously for Los Ceibos as well as for San Luis.
