Arrows summon Reinforcements to cover call-ups

The Toronto Arrows have signed three players to help fill the gaps set to arise from international call-ups. Sam Malcolm returns from Japan, with Welsh hooker Joe Tomlinson and Canadian international flanker Ollie Nott also join. Two further arrivals are set to be confirmed next week.

Malcolm, 25, is a surprise and welcome addition for the final four weeks of the season. The flyhalf or fullback is a prolific goal kicker and one of Toronto’s most consistent performers in 2019 and 2020. He notably scored 24 points in a 9-for-9 performance off the tee against Seattle last February.

Bolstering the front row is former Cardiff RFC hooker Tomlinson. The 28-year-old captained Cardiff to a Welsh National Cup title in 2019 before moving to Canada in the fall of that year. He has since suited up for Burnaby Lake in the BC Premier League.

Nott was a UVic Vikes standout and broke into Canada’s test side in 2017, winning two caps in the Americas Rugby Championship. After a long stretch in the rugby wilderness battling injury, the 26-year-old caught the eye at the World Tens Series event in Bermuda last fall.

Nine Arrows have been called into the Canadian squad for their upcoming tests against England and Wales, with two spots on the tour still to be determined. Their three Uruguayan internationals are expected to join Los Teros in early July.
