Lucas Paulos extends contract with Brive

Brive have re-signed Lucas Paulos. The Top 14 club have extended the contract of the Pumas second-rower to include the 2021-2022 season. The player arrived 0n December 16 from Argentina as a medical joker.

Paulos joined Brive from Los Jaguares. It marked a return from Europe; the Argentine native moved to Spain at the age of 5. He lived in Spain for more than 10 years and played rugby for Club de Rugby Majadahonda. He was subsequently identified by Mont de Marsan and moved to the French club. After two years he moved to Argentina.

He wanted to be a Puma. Doing so required him returning to Argentina where he played for Olivos in Buenos Aires. He was selected for Los Pumitas and played in the 2018 Junior World Championship.

In 2019 he joined Jaguares. He played two seasons for the Argentine Super Rugby season. Mario Ledesma selected him for the recent Tri Nations. He made his debut against New Zealand and earned his second cap in the draw against Australia.

The 23-year-old is established as one of Argentina’s top second-rowers. This and his ability to speak French combined to see him impress in his inaugural season with the club. Paulos had seven starts in his nine Top 14 appearances in the 2020-2021 season.

The Puma is one of two Argentine players at Brive. Uncapped winger Axel Muller has been at the club since 2018. Paulos is also one of two Americas second-rowers who will play for the club next season. Andrés Zafra is joining Brive from Agen for the new season.
