Canadian flanker Matt Beukeboom signs for Bressane

US Bressane have confirmed the signing of Matt Beukeboom from USM Sapiac. The Canadian flanker will stay in the French Pro D2, with the Bourg-en-Bresse club recently earning promotion from the Nationale.

Beukeboom arrived at Montauban in 2019 and leaves after two seasons of mixed fortunes. He started on eight occasions for the club in 2019-20, sometimes at lock, but only managed three starts this past year and was informed early in 2021 that a new contract would not be forthcoming.

The 24-year-old younger brother of long-time international Brett, Matt joined the Pau academy program in 2016 with an extension signed in 2017. He made his test debut that year against Chile in the Americas Rugby Championship but has yet to add to his three caps.

A surprise absentee from Canada’s training roster for the upcoming July Internationals against England and Wales, it remains to be seen if Beukeboom can force his way back into contention for the World Cup qualifying series this fall.
