Uruguay has named a 30-man roster for the u20 International Series 2021. Los Teritos will join Argentina, Georgia and South Africa in the upcoming competition in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Los Teritos are coached by Gonzalo Camardón. The 50-year-old played in Rugby World Cup 1991 as a scrum-half and Rugby World Cup 1999 as a winger. He was a try scorer in Argentina’s famous win over Wales in Cardiff in 2001.
Camardón’s roster is a look to the future of Uruguayan rugby. The homegrown talent include players who featured in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Four of the 30 players featured for Peñarol. They are second-rower Lucas Bianchi, flanker Carlos Deus, scrum-half Santiago Álvarez, and winger Juan Manuel Alonso.
Los Teritos will play their tournament opener on Friday, June 18 against South Africa. It will be followed by games against Georgia on Wednesday, June 23 and Argentina on Monday, June 28. The finals will be on Saturday July 03 in the format of 1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th.
Uruguay’s u20’s team will travel to South Africa on Wednesday, June 10. The players will be accompanied by Gonzalo Camardón (Head Coach), Guillermo Storace (Coach), Ignacio Inchausti (Assistant Coach), Fernando Paullier (Assistant Coach), and Nicolás Martínez (Physical Trainer).
