Argentina to face Romania in Bucharest in July

Argentina is to face Romania in Bucharest in July. Los Pumas will play a test match in the Eastern European country on Saturday, July 03. It will precede Argentina’s two test matches against Wales in Cardiff. They will take place on Saturday, July 10 and Saturday July 17 respectively.

Argentina were scheduled to host the matches against Wales. Los Pumas were also to have a home test match against Georgia. Instead, the South Americans will play three test matches in Europe. Georgia will tour South Africa and have a home test match against Scotland.

The changes left a void which Romania has now filled in. The fixture will be played at the Stadionul Ghencea, the home of Steaua Bucarest. The venue seats 28,000 and may be open to the public with 25% capacity permitted to attend the match.

Romania will follow up their match against Los Pumas by playing host to Scotland and Japan. The dates will coincide with Argentina’s matches against Wales.

Argentina and Romania have met in eight prior test matches. All eight were won by Los Pumas. The most recent match took place a decade ago with Argentina claiming a 43-8 win over Romania in Invercargill, New Zealand. The match was a Pool B match at Rugby World Cup 2011.

The fixture will be a first-ever test match for all of the 2021 Los Pumas in Romania. The last time Argentina played in the Eastern European country was 29 years ago. Los Pumas were 21-18 winners in 1992.
