Former Sunwolves flanker Dan Pryor signs for Legion

Another forward with significant Super Rugby experience is heading to the San Diego Legion. Dan Pryor has joined the club for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 33-year-old flanker – older brother of Rugby United New York’s Kara Pryor – arrives from a three-year stint in Japan.

Originally from Auckland, Pryor made his senior provincial debut for Northland in 2010. He played one game for the Blues in 2012 before finding a permanent spot with the Highlanders in 2015. In 2019 Pryor moved to Japan and played for the Sunwolves, captaining the side on occasion.

At international level Pryor has represented the New Zealand Māori on three occasions. He notably started against Canada in the November 2017 match at BC Place.

Pryor’s arrival provides a boost to the Legion as they push for a playoff spot. San Diego are set to lose Psalm Wooching and Michael Smith temporarily to international duty at the end of the month but should soon welcome the return of Chris Robshaw from injury. Jasa Veremalua, Travis Larsen, and Keni Nasoqeqe have also featured on the flank this season.
