Mateo Carreras signs one-year Newcastle extension

Mateo Carreras has signed a new one-year contract with Newcastle Falcons through the end of the 2021-2022 season. The 21-year-old winger is one of three Argentines currently signed to the club along with flanker Santiago Grondona and center Matías Orlando.

Carreras signed on with the English Premiership club in December and made four appearances before running into trouble with the judiciary. He was handed a 9-week suspension in March that will see him free to return on June 15.

Having previously represented the Pumitas u20s, Argentina XV, and Los Pumas 7s, Carreras is yet to make his test debut. Older brother Santiago, who plays for Gloucester, is in the senior Pumas squad for July while Mateo was included in the 67-man longlist named by Mario Ledesma last month.
