Argentina Confirm 32-man roster for July Internationals

Argentina has confirmed a 32-man roster for the July Internationals. New captain Julián Montoya will lead Los Pumas in two test matches against Wales in Cardiff. A third fixture is to also be added, likely against Romania in Bucharest.

The roster is fully professional; many notable names have missed out on a place on the roster. Among them are London Irish hooker Agustín Creevy, Brive second-rower Lucas PaulosToulouse center Juan Cruz Mallía, Toulon winger Ramiro Moyano, and Castres fly half Benjamín Urdapilleta.

While the above mentioned names miss out there are inclusions for players who did not play for Argentina in 2020. The UK-based Tomás Lavanini, Matías Moroni and Enrique Pieretto are cases in point. Also selected are the uncapped pair of loose head props Facundo Gigena and Federico Wegrzyn. Regular Mayco Vivas misses out through injury. So too does flanker Santiago Grondona.

The majority of the 32 players play their rugby in Europe. There are players from France’s Top 14 and Pro D2 leagues; the English Premiership; and the Pro 14. In addition, there are players included from Super Rugby AU and from the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).
