Rugby Championship: No home games for Los Pumas

Argentina is to tour South Africa, New Zealand and Australia in 2021. Los Pumas will do so to play all matches on the road in the 2021 Rugby Championship. This year’s competition will see a return to the Four Nations model with South Africa back after having pulled-out of the 2020 competition. Argentina made history in 2021 by defeating New Zealand in Sydney and drawing against Australia in Newcastle and also in Sydney.

The 2021 Rugby Championship will kick-off in South Africa. Los Pumas’ match against South Africa on August 14 will be the official tournament opener. It will, however, take place one week after New Zealand play host to Australia in a Bledisloe Cup fixture. That match will not be part of the Rugby Championship tournament.

Argentina’s August 14 date against the Springboks is the first of two such fixtures. The second will be played on Saturday, August 21. Both matches will be in South Africa. They are to take place at yet to be determined venues. They will follow South Africa’s two home test matches against Georgia and three home test matches against the British & Irish Lions. Los Pumas will play away to Wales in July.

The two match tour of South Africa will be the first of three tours. Argentina will subsequently play two test matches in New Zealand and then two more in Australia. The matches against the All Blacks will be on Saturday, September 11 in Auckland; and Saturday, September 18 in Wellington.

Los Pumas will conclude their Rugby Championship campaign in Australia. The South Americans will play against the Wallabies at yet to be confirmed venues on Saturday, September 25 and Saturday October 02.

Confirmation means that South Africa will host two matches, New Zealand and Australia five each and Argentina zero. Los Pumas last played a home test match in August 2019.
