Legion to play next two home matches in Chula Vista

The San Diego Legion are on the move again. Having played their first home game of the season in Las Vegas and the past two in Los Angeles, the Legion have now shifted their May 15 and May 29 games against NOLA and Houston respectively to the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista.

It’s been a tumultuous season for Legion fans – affectionately known as ‘The Cohort’. The team announced in January that operations would temporary move to Las Vegas for the 2021 season. After hosting Rugby United New York at James Regional Sports Park in the season opener, a return to California was then confirmed early last month.

The Track & Field Facility of Dignity Health Sports Park served as the venue for the match against the Utah Warriors. Following that was a stop at the Memorial Coliseum against the New England Free Jacks, part of a double-header in concert with the LA Giltinis.

Torero Stadium has been the home of the Legion since their inception in 2018, but to date has been unavailable. Team management says they hope to return to the University of San Diego venue in June.

The Elite Athlete Training Center is the home of the USA Sevens residential program. It also played host to the 2019 Women’s Rugby Super Series.
