San Diego adds USA u20 scrumhalf Ethan McVeigh

The San Diego Legion have moved to shore up their scrumhalf stocks with the addition of USA u20 international Ethan McVeigh. A local product of St. Augustine High School, the 21-year-old is set to make his professional debut in Sunday’s match against the Seattle Seawolves.

McVeigh earned High School All-American honors before graduating to the national u20 side. He was a reserve in the 2018 series against their Canadian counterparts and started both games of the same series in 2019. For the past three years he has been playing for Welsh university side Cardiff Met.

San Diego were forced to play flyhalf Patrick Madden, a u20 select in 2018, out of position last weekend following injuries to Nate Augspurger and Carlo de Nysschen. The latter has recovered sufficiently to play against the Seawolves. Augspurger will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.
