Mexico names Men’s 7s training squad for Olympic Qualifier

Mexico have named a Men’s Sevens training squad of 22 players to prepare for the final Olympic Qualifying tournament. Monaco will again host the event set to take place on the weekend of June 19-20 at Stade Louis II. The Rugby Sevens event at the Olympics begins on July 27.

Among the notables are 2016 Hong Kong Sevens participants Roberto Calderón, Erik Castillo, Alejandro Chávez, Franco Guerrero, Andrés Rodríguez, and Fharid Samano. The team will be coached by Rubén Duque in an interim capacity following the recent departure of Simón Pierre for personal reasons.

Las Serpientes are one of four Americas teams who will be competing along with fellow North American qualifiers Jamaica and South American representatives Brazil and Chile. Also competing for the 12th spot in Tokyo are China, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Samoa, Tonga, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
