Ruben de Haas to join Austin on short-term deal

The Austin Gilgronis are to welcome a third international scrumhalf to their roster. USA World Cup starter Ruben de Haas will join the team on a short-term deal that will run until the July test window. He is currently en route to Texas having departed South Africa.

In recent months de Haas earned a first Currie Cup start with the Cheetahs as well as three appearances in Super Rugby Unlocked. An early release from his contract was agreed to enable the 22-year-old to play for the AG’s prior to taking up a two-year deal with Saracens in the UK.

de Haas joins Samoa international Pele Cowley, Chile’s Marcelo Torrealba, and American prospect Sidney Shoop as scrumhalf options. Torrealba, however, is set to join the Cóndores for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in June. This will be the first Major League Rugby experience for de Haas.
