New York signs Pumas legend Juan Manuel Leguizamón

Juan Manuel Leguizamón is coming to Major League Rugby after all. The 87-test Pumas loose forward has signed with Rugby United New York for the remainder of the Major League Rugby season. He joins fellow Argentines Benjamín Bonasso and Joel Miranda in The Big Apple.

It’s been 18 months in the rugby wilderness for Leguizamón since calling time on his international career following Rugby World Cup 2019. He was due to join the Seattle Seawolves for the 2020 MLR season but visa complications denied him from taking part before the season was cancelled.

New York has used Evan Mintern, Kara Pryor, and Kyle Sumsion at the back of the scrum thus far but once up to speed Leguizamón is a natural fit at No8 though he is equally comfortable on the flank. The 37-year-old could debut as early as Sunday’s game against LA in Jersey City.
