Jérémy Lenaerts back in the frame for SaberCats

Jérémy Lenaerts has re-joined the Houston SaberCats for the remainder of the Major League Rugby season. The 28-year-old second row signed with the club from the Seattle Seawolves in the off-season but earlier this year opted out of the season due to health concerns related to the pandemic.

Lenaerts was joined by fellow lock Kyle Breytenbach in opting out. The latter was subsequently released by Houston and made a surprise return with Austin last month. In response the SaberCats acquired Kody O’Neil in the supplementary draft and signed Canadian international Lucas Albornoz.

O’Neil and Albornoz have been the preferred second row pairing for the past three matches but Lenaerts should come into contention for a starting role once he is up to speed. Apisai Tauyavuca and Van Stewart are the other lock options though both can also play on the blindside flank.
