Canadian center Ciaran Breen signs with Carcassonne

Another bright young Canadian prospect is heading to France next season. Pro D2 side Carcassonne have confirmed that Ciaran Breen will join on a senior academy deal next season. The news comes just days after the Victoria, BC, native celebrated his 20th birthday.

It’s the second stint in France for Breen. He joined the Biarritz Olympique academy in 2019 but returned to Canada last year to study at UBC. Over the past few months the age-grade international has also been training with the Pacific Pride program at Rugby Canada’s high performance center in Victoria.

A product of the renowned Shawnigan Lake School program, Breen is considered one of Canada’s top young backs who is capable of playing both midfield positions. Also in French academy programs are Will Percillier, Quentin James, Logan Weidner, Mehdi Porchet, and Tyler Duguid.
