Tomás Cubelli has signed for Biarritz on a two-year-deal. The Argentine will make the move north from Australia to France continue his professional rugby career. The transfer will take place after the 2021 Super Rugby AU and 2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman seasons. Cubelli is the starting scrum-half for the Western Force. The team will play in the Semi Finals after having beaten league leaders the Queensland Reds this past Friday.
Cubelli is one of four Pumas currently on the Western Force roster. The others are fly half Domingo Miotti; tight head prop Santiago Medrano; and flanker Tomás Lezana. Medrano and Lezana will both remain at the Western Force in 2022. Miotti has signed a long-term deal with the Glasgow Warriors to play in the Pro 14.
Cubelli, 31 has been a staple in the Pumas lineup for the past decade. He spent the 2016 and 2017 Super Rugby seasons with the Brumbies before switching to Los Jaguares in 2018. The Belgrano product also experienced Vodacom Cup rugby in South Africa with the Pampas between 2011 and 2013.
He played in Rugby World Cups 2015 and 2019 for Argentina. He may appear in a third RWC in 2023. He was the starting scrum-half for Los Pumas in their historic win over New Zealand in 2020. Cubelli has earned 81 caps for Argentina.
