Sophie de Goede stars as Saracens hold Premier 15s lead

Saracens maintained their six point lead over Harlequins with a 38-29 over Loughborough Lightning on Saturday. Sophie de Goede was the star for the winners, scoring two tries including a 75-meter intercept. The gifted Canadian No8 also kicked four conversions for a personal haul of 18 points.

de Goede wasn’t the only Canadian in on the scoring for Saracens. Emma Taylor started on the blindside flank and crossed for one try in the match. Alysha Corrigan ran out on the left wing for the London side.

Two of their international teammates started for the Lightning. Abby Duguid was at lock, while DaLeaka Menin was not in her usual prop position but instead made a rare appearance on the side of the scrum.

Harlequins were comfortable winners over Worcester to stay in the hunt for top spot. Canada’s Paige Farries was the lone try scorer for the Warriors, her fifth of the season.

Exeter lost their road game against Sale, who remain second from the bottom. The Chiefs had five North American players in their lineup with inside center Gabby Cantorna scoring five points off the kicking tee. Fellow Eagle Kate Zackary was on the flank with Joanna Kitlinski a reserve. Canadian duo Emily Tuttosi and McKinley Hunt started at hooker and lock respectively.
