Jaguares XV set record in big win over Cafeteros Pro

A new record was set this evening. Los Jaguares XV set a new Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) record. The Argentine side were 80-7 winners over Los Cafeteros Pro. Sebastián Cancelliere ran in four in what was a twelve tries to one victory.

Los Cafeteros Pro went in to the match with a rotated line-up. This included an unprecedented fourteen Colombians in the starting XV. The team was understrength by design. Rather than put in a committed effort against the tournament heavyweights, Los Cafeteros Pro approached the match as a non-winnable contest.

There were periods wherein it was one-way traffic. Los Cafeteros Pro found it hard to compete given the strength of the opposition in general play, in addition to the scrum. For much of the game the Colombians were facing a doughnut, a scoreless performance. The doughnut was avoided when Enzo Ocampo scored in the 68th minute. It was technically a consolation term, though for Los Cafeteros Pro it was an award for not giving up.

The Argentine side were rampant. Not only did they score twelve tries but they also had four disallowed tries. Had there not been a TMO then the scoreline could well have gone beyond 100. Instead, Los Jaguares XV bettered their 71-28 win over the same opposition in round two.

The Glasgow Warriors bound Sebastián Cancelliere scored four tries while inside center Teo Castiglioni touched down for two. Six other players each scored once each. Among them was Martín Elías. The fly half also converted ten tries to complete a 25 point haul for the match.

SLAR will continue on Wednesday. In round eight the unbeaten Los Jaguares XV will take on Selknam and Los Cafeteros Pro will be up against Penarol.
