Canada were crowned Women’s champions of the Dubai 7’s on Saturday. The North Americans defeated neighbors the USA 31-14 in the final. The result was the Women’s Eagles’ one and only defeat of the competition.
Teams are competing in Dubai to prepare for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Both Canada and the USA went into Day Two undefeated. They overcame all opponents on the opening day and ultimately faced-off in the tournament decider. They were joined by Brazil to give the Americas three Women’s competitors.
Brazil opened Day Two against Kenya. As Yaras completed an impressive victory. The 17-5 result was the one victory for the South Americans today. The USA opened with a 31-7 win over France 2 and subsequently downed Brazil 36-7. It meant that the Women’s Eagles were the only undefeated team ahead of the final.
Canada’s road to the final began on Day two against France 1. The North Americans fell to a 29-12 defeat. The Canadians improved next up to defeat Japan 31-5. The clinical victory was their penultimate match of the tournament. The remaining match saw Canada claiming glory against the USA Women’s Eagles.
