Mateo Carreras handed nine-week suspension

Mateo Carreras has been handed a nine-week suspension. The Argentine winger pleaded guilty to foul play. He was cited for making contact with the eyes while playing for the Newcastle Falcons vs the Wasps this past Friday in the English Premiership.

The citing was for intentional contact with eye(s), contrary to World Rugby Law 9.12. Carreras accepted the charge and was given a nine-week suspension. He will be free to play again on June 15.

Carreras moved to Newcastle in late 2020. He made the move to England from Los Pumas 7’s. It saw him stepping away from a probable place on Argentina’s roster for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

He has impressed at the Newcastle Falcons. His performances saw him establish himself as a regular start in the team. The uncapped winger from Tucumán is now a player inline for an international call-up.  Los Pumas are scheduled to play three mid-year test matches. Wales are to tour for two matches and Georgia for one.
