Georgia and Romania win Rugby World Cup 2023 Qualifiers

Georgia and Romania were winners in today’s Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2023 qualifiers. They won their respective qualifiers against Russia and Spain. After three rounds Georgia and Romania are in first and second positions in the Rugby Europe Championship.

Georiga are in top spot on 14 points. This is a return of 3 wins from 3 matches with two bonus points. Romania have a 2-1 record thus far. The Oaks have 9 competition points. Russia are third. The Bears have a 1-1 record. Spain are 0-2 thus far; however, Los Leones secured losing bonus points against Georgia and Romania.

Georgia were 23-6 winners over Russia in today’s first match.  The Lelos scored all three tries of the away match in Kaliningrad.  Romania were 22-16 winners over Spain in game two. The homeside completed a come-from-behind win. Spain’s discipline was a factor in the result; Los Leones lost one player to a red card and two others to yellow cards. This mean Spain played with 12 men for a period during the second half.

Europe’s RWC 2023 qualifiers continue next weekend. Portugal play host to Spain on Saturday while Georgia have home advantage against Romania on Sunday. A win for Georgia will go a long way towards Georgia securing the Europe 1 spot at RWC 2023. The winner of Portugal vs Spain willmove above Russia to occupy third position in the standings.
