Two Argentine props fly in for Cobras

Two Argentine props have been added to the Cobras XV Brasil roster. They are Alejandro Luna and Juan Román González. Both players went through Argentina’s High Performance Centers and played for Los Pumitas, Argentina’s u20 team.

Luna is from Chaco in Northern Argentina, a product of CURNE. He represented Argentina at the 2017 Junior World Championship. González is from Jockey Club Venado Tuerto in Santa Fé province. He played for Argentina u20s at the 2019 South American u20 Championship.

The duo will be available to play for the Brazilian team on Sunday in round two of the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). They are currently with the team in Chile. The Cobras will take on Peñarol in the first of three Sunday fixtures.

The addition of Luna and González means that Os Cobras Brasil XV now have six Argentines on their player roster. The four other players are hooker Santiago Grippo, second row Manuel Bernstein, center Franco Giudice, and fullback Marcos Di Sanctis. However, not all will be able to play in the season opener. Di Sanctis and prop Jardel Vettorato are set to fly to Chile to join the roster over the coming days.

Meanwhile, there are 11 cases of COVID-19 infection within the roster. Grippo is among the names missing for the early season SLAR matches. The others are props Henrique Ferreira, Joel Ramírez, Leonel Moreno, Lucas Abud, and Matheus Rocha, locks Kauã Guimarães and Gabriel Oliveira, flankers Devon Müller and Rafael Teixeira, and center Gabriel Quirino.
