Major League Rugby launches The Rugby Network

Major League Rugby have officially launched their new digital platform. Created in partnership with RugbyPass, The Rugby Network will offer live streaming access of all of its games for free to fans across the globe. Local blackouts for some games will be in effect based on existing broadcast deals in North America, but even those games will be available on delay.

The new website and app, available on both Android and iOS, will also feature a complete set of highlights, behind the scenes content, and featured articles. Americas Rugby News has reached an agreement to provide match previews that will be featured on The Rugby Network.

It’s a landmark development for the American competition that is days away from launching its fourth season. A previous arrangement saw games streamed over Facebook, but that avenue was beset by technical difficulties that often left fans unable to access some games.

The one-stop shop for all MLR media content is a contradiction to a trend seen globally of limited partnerships and poor online access. North American fans, for example, have been left in the dark by Super Rugby, while the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby has limited their broadcasts to a South American audience. MLR meanwhile is set to thrive through this exciting new venture.
