Warriors add former Free Jacks flanker Mike Gieselman

The Utah Warriors have added flanker Mike Gieselman to their roster for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. A former Michigan State captain, the 25-year-old played for Utah’s development side – the Warrior Selects – in the fall before getting the call-up to the senior side for their preseason match against Rugby ATL on Saturday.

Gieselman is yet to make his pro debut but was previously part of another MLR side. He played for the New England Free Jacks during their 2019 exhibition campaign and was part of their squad during the Cara Cup competition hosted in Weymouth.

Utah’s starting back row against ATL was comprised of Thomas Tu’avao, Lance Williams, and new captain Bailey Wilson. Jurie van Vuuren was originally named to start but later withdrawn from the lineup. Saia Uhila is another versatile option while USA u20 select Charlie Hola remains in the development pool.
