LA confirms signing of Australia star Matt Giteau

The LA Giltinis have formally announced the signing of Australia star Matt Giteau for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. A veteran of 103 tests for the Wallabies between 2002 and 2016, he follows fellow centurion and long-time international teammate Adam Ashley-Cooper to Southern California.

It’s an announcement long expected. Rumors began circulating in June of last year that Giteau was in talks with the expansion side. Despite being 38 years old he remains in good physical condition having spent the last three seasons playing for Suntory Sungoliath in the Japan Top League.

Giteau bring attacking flair and an educated left boot to LA, with the ability to play either flyhalf or inside center. He joins a backs division that also includes Canada’s record try scorer DTH van der Merwe and Scotland Sevens standout Glenn Bryce alongside Australians Ashley-Cooper and Bill Meakes.

LA are currently preparing for the upcoming season in Hawai’i. They will open their MLR accounts on March 20 when they host the New England Free Jacks at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
