Austin signs Mexican-American front rower Angel Torres

The Austin Gilgronis have signed versatile front rower Angel Torres for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Born in Escondido, California, the 21-year-old lived in Mexico until returning to the USA at age six where he grew up in Valley Center on the outskirts of San Diego.

Torres is already well-traveled having played for New England College in New Hampshire, Trinity Western in British Colombia, and MiraCosta College in California. Most recently he was part of Rugby ATL’s Pathway 404 development program but has now taken up Austin’s offer.

Signed primarily as a hooker, Torres is also comfortable at tighthead prop. That skill-set is similar to new Austin teammate Brendan Rams. The Gilgronis also feature three specialist hookers on their roster – Robbie Coetzee, Hugh Roach, and Mason Koch.
