Los Pumas 7’s were crowned champions today in Madrid. In doing so, Los Pumas 7’s won back-to-back Madrid 7’s tournaments. There were three matches today. Los Pumas 7’s recorded a 38-0 win over the USA and a 36-19 win over Kenya. They were followed by a rematch with Kenya in the Final. Argentina won 45-7.
Argentina’s win against the USA was build on solid defense. In addition to keeping the Eagles scoreless, Los Pumas 7’s were all to punish errors. Santiago Álvarez, Rodrigo Etchart, Rodrigo Isgro, and Marcos Moneta scored one try each.
Los Pumas 7’s then went on to control play against Kenya. Moneta impressed with two tries. Etchart, Fernando Luna, Joaquín De la Vega, and Germán Schulz also all scored tries. Kenya produced a minor fight-back in the second half. It was ultimately too little, too late.
In a repeat from the first tournament last weekend, Argentina and Kenya met in the final. Los Pumas 7’s controlled play, competing a comprehensive 45-7 win. Moneta was the star with a hat-trick. Etchart and De la Vega both scored once each.
Moneta scored tries in all matches this weekend. He scored four on day one and six today. He competed the tournament with ten tries from six matches.
There was also bad news for Los Pumas 7’s. Five players suffered injuries in the tournament. Lucio Cinti, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Franco Sábato, Santiago Mare, Joaquín De la Vega were all unable to compete until the end of the tournament.
