Lucas Mensa scored his first try for Valence Romans on Friday. He did so in what was a 24-20 defeat against Perpignan. Mensa played the match at inside center. He did not have the opportunity of playing opposite Jerónimo de la Fuente due to Perpignan rotating for the match.
Mensa’s try was not orthodox for a player in his position. He entered a maul and assisted the drive before being the scorer.
The Valence Romans and Perpignan are having very different seasons. On the one hand, after 21 rounds of the 2020-2021 Pro D2 season, the Valence Romans are in 15 position. The club is in the relegation zone. On the other hand, Perpignan are very well placed. One point separates Perpignan and Vannes at the top.
Mensa joined Valence Romans in mid-2020. He did so from Argentina. He had been captain of Los Ceibos in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). This came following his selection for RWC 2019. Pumas Coach, Mario Ledesma also took him to Australia for the 2020 Tri Nations. He was a replacement in one of the four fixtures.
