Jose Luis González try helps Mont de Marsan to victory

Mont de Marsan were 26-23 winners over Carcassonne on Friday. José Luis González scored a try; his first in France. The Argentine hooker scored in the 57th minute. It was the second of two tries for Mont de Marsan. Carcassonne also scored twice, the second came two minutes from full-time to set up a thrilling finish.

The try was González’ first in France. He made the move to Mont de Marsan last month from Argentina. The 23-year-old played for Los Ceibos in the 2020 Super Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). His try against Carcassonne was his first in the Pro D2.

González was one of three Argentine forwards involved in the win. Former Ceibos N8 Santiago Montagner started as did second-rower Leandro Cedaro. Of the three players Cedaro is the only one who has been capped. He received a call-up by Italy in 2013.

González was on Argentina’s roster for the 2020 Tri Nations. He was officially the fourth choice hooker in the competition. Julián Montoya was first choice throughout. Both Santiago Socino and Facundo Bosch were used as replacements. Agustín Creevy missed the tournament to stay with his family and play for London Irish.
