Experienced Cobras roster for 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby

An experienced Cobras roster will compete in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). A longlist of 39 players is presently preparing for the upcoming season. The 2021 SLAR will begin on March 16.

The roster contains Brazil’s regular test squad members across all positions. The five most capped players are Lucas Abud (42), Yan Rosetti (38), Moisés Duque (57), Felipe Sancery (37), and Lucas Tranquez (37).

The experience is complimented by a number of recent graduates from the u20’s and Brazil XV. They include Brendon Alves, Guilherme Dias, Henrique Ferreira, Kauã Guimarães, Leonel Moreno, Gabriel Quirino and Joel Ramírez, Leonardo de Souza.

Moreno and Ramirez are Argentine players eligible to play for Brazil. The roster also contains Devon Müller, Josh Reeves, Laurent Bourda-Couhet as three Brazilian test players who are from abroad.

Four additional players were drafted from Argentina. They are Manuel Bernstein, Santiago Grippo, Franco Giudice, and Marcos de Sanctis. Of them, Of the four the leading name is Bernstein. The 20-year-old played for Los Pumitas in the 2019 Junior World Championship. He was a part of the team which finished fourth in the tournament.

Cobras replace Corinthians Rugby as Brazil’s team. The change is one of three for the 2021 season. SLAR 2021 SLAR sees an increase from five to six teams. Los Cafeteros Pro (Colombia) will debut in the competition, giving Colombia its first taste of professional rugby. Jaguares XV (Argentina) replace Los Ceibos as Argentina’s while the trio of Selknam (Chile), Olímpia Lions (Paraguay), and Peñarol (Uruguay) all return.
