Perry Baker suffers leg injury, Olympic participation in doubt

Perry Baker has suffered a serious injury at the Madrid Sevens. The two-time World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year went down with what appeared to be a broken leg or ankle two minutes into the first half of the USA’s match against Kenya on Saturday.

While a full diagnosis is to be confirmed, the severity of the injury was evident in the video replay and Baker was subsequently stretchered off the pitch. He now faces an uncertain recovery time with the Tokyo Olympics just five months away.

It’s a terrible blow for both Baker and the Eagles. Star playmaker Folau Niua suffered a badly broken leg in a similar fashion in June 2019 and has yet to return to the pitch.

A brief clip of the injury can be seen below. The full video replay can be seen here.
